L'objectif est de r\u00e9duire les charges d'impact, d'\u00e9viter le balancement de la charge, de limiter le glissement de la bande et d'\u00e9viter les contraintes m\u00e9caniques tout en assurant un arr\u00eat en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/p>    <p>Cette approche est particuli\u00e8rement pr\u00e9cieuse sur les longs convoyeurs en descente et les syst\u00e8mes de levage lourds. Si le couple de freinage complet est appliqu\u00e9 instantan\u00e9ment, le syst\u00e8me peut subir des secousses, des contraintes sur la bo\u00eete de vitesses, des vibrations structurelles ou des dommages \u00e0 la bande. Le freinage \u00e0 deux \u00e9tapes permet une courbe de d\u00e9c\u00e9l\u00e9ration plus douce \u2014 souvent d\u00e9crite comme un \u00ab freinage doux \u00bb \u2014 avant que le frein ne passe \u00e0 un couple de maintien complet.<\/p>    <p>Le comportement \u00e0 deux \u00e9tapes peut \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9 m\u00e9caniquement (ressorts\/liaisons doubles) ou par contr\u00f4le d'actionnement (modulation hydraulique, commande \u00e9lectro-hydraulique ou coordination par variateur de fr\u00e9quence).
