Si l'alimentation est coup\u00e9e, le convoyeur peut \u00ab reculer \u00bb ou acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer de mani\u00e8re incontr\u00f4lable, cr\u00e9ant un danger s\u00e9rieux pour la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, des d\u00e9versements de mat\u00e9riaux et des dommages potentiels \u00e0 la bande ou \u00e0 la structure.<\/p>    <p>Un frein d'arr\u00eat standard peut ne pas suffire car l'\u00e9nergie du syst\u00e8me est \u00e9lev\u00e9e et continue. De nombreux convoyeurs en descente n\u00e9cessitent un frein de retenue d\u00e9di\u00e9 ou un frein de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 con\u00e7u pour pr\u00e9venir la d\u00e9faillance et un arr\u00eat contr\u00f4l\u00e9. Le freinage en deux \u00e9tapes est souvent utilis\u00e9 pour \u00e9viter les charges d'impact et le glissement de la bande. Dans certains syst\u00e8mes, le freinage est partag\u00e9 entre des freins m\u00e9caniques et des m\u00e9thodes \u00e9lectriques ( entra\u00eenements r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ratifs, r\u00e9sistances de freinage dynamiques), mais le frein m\u00e9canique reste essentiel en tant que couche de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 finale.<\/p>    <p>La s\u00e9lection doit prendre en compte la charge en pire cas, la pente, la tension de la bande, l'inertie, le cycle de service et la capacit\u00e9 thermique. L'entretien est tout aussi crucial : un jeu incorrect, des garnitures contamin\u00e9es ou un m\u00e9canisme de d\u00e9blocage faible peuvent transformer un syst\u00e8me de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 en un point de d\u00e9faillance.
