Outdoor gantry cranes operate in rain, dust, temperature swings, and often salt spray in coastal yards. Brake protection should combine corrosion control and ingress protection. Specify industrial coating systems (zinc-rich primer + epoxy + polyurethane topcoat), stainless or plated fasteners, and sealed bearings/pins where appropriate. For electro-hydraulic thrusters and electrical brake components, choose suitable IP ratings and ensure cable glands and connectors are sealed correctly.
Water and dirt ingress can cause sticking pivots, uneven wear, and delayed release—so protective covers, drainage paths, and regular cleaning are practical improvements. In cold climates, consider low-temperature hydraulic fluids and heaters for control cabinets or power units.
Corrosion protection must be paired with maintenance discipline: inspect for coating damage, clean salt deposits, lubricate joints correctly (without contaminating linings), and replace worn seals before leaks spread. A “marine/outdoor package” should be clearly defined at purchase to avoid gaps in specification.
