For safety-critical machines, downtime and risk are both expensive. Keep a minimum spare set of wear items and high-failure-risk components. Typically recommended stock includes: friction pads/linings (full set), return springs or spring packs (for fail-safe brakes), pins/bushings, seals and gasket kits (hydraulic cylinders/thrusters), brake discs or brake wheels if wear is significant, and key fasteners.
For electro-hydraulic systems, consider spare thruster units or critical internal parts depending on lead time. For electromagnetic systems, stock coils, rectifiers/power supply modules (e.g., brake power supply boxes), and microswitches/sensors used for monitoring.
Your spares strategy should be driven by lead time, failure impact, and accessibility. If a crane hoist brake fails, the machine may be locked out immediately—so spares must be on-site. Maintain traceability for safety parts and store friction materials properly (dry, clean, protected from oil). A well-planned spares kit reduces both downtime and safety exposure.
